Archaeological Excavation at Madayi (8-20 May 2022)

As part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Mahatma Gandhi University and the University of Chieti, Italy, a long-term interdisciplinary research has been planned. As part of it, the School of Social Sciences is currently involved in organizing a major interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research titled Trade and Malabar Coast: Cross-cultural Encounters in Madayi, 700-1300AD.  From 8 to 20 May 2022, an archaeological exploration leading to excavation and site survey using total station and drone are scheduled. The Department of Archaeology, Government of Kerala, archaeology experts, Prof. Vaso La Salvia and Dr. Marco Moderato, from the University of Chieti, Italy, and Dr Selvakumar V, Tamil University, Tanjore, experts from the Society for Social Science Research, Madayi, and the faculty and students from the School of Social Sciences, would jointly carry out the survey, mapping and exploration.
